Ohio Trans Health Inititives

Equitas, a new leader in healthcare for the LGBTQ community has been doing great work and partnering with TransOhio on many activities and events. They are putting on a conference next week (October 19-21) called Transforming Care -  Midwest conference on LGBTQ Health Equity and HIV/AIDS at the Fawcett center on campus of OSU.

Great programing available and they are also doing free mammograms for individuals who qualify.  Scholarships available as well to attend the workshops. Check out the details at their website.

TransOhio working with Equitas and attorney volunteers put on a free name change and gender marker change clinic for transgender individuals needing such services. The first one was held in August and the second one in Columbus will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Equitas 9 4400 North High St. in Clintonville starting at 6:00 PM. Beginning in 2017, these clinics will move to other parts of the state. TransOhio is also seeking grants to also help individuals who need funding to go through the process (filing fees and publication costs) so look for more updates on these clinics.

Transgender people- and in particular transwomen of color- have been killed at an alarming rate in this country in 2016 with three people killed in Ohio so far this year! Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) events will be held around the state on the weekend of November 18-20th. This is what we know so far.

Cleveland -Margie’s Hope and Community partners of Cleveland will be holding TDOR on Friday November 18th starting at 5;30 PM. The event will begin with a gathering at Huntington Park at corner of lakeside and West 3rd and march to the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda for the vigil.

Cincinnati/ No. Ky. – Heartland Trans Wellness will be leading the event at the Campus of Northern Kentucky University starting at 2:00 PM and there will be several events throughout the afternoon. The events include a religious ceremony, a main ceremony, and reception. The event should conclude by 6:00 PM. The location is NKU’s Student center.
Toledo- The event will take place at the University of Toledo at 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 20th in the Ingham Room on campus.
More details will be posted as they become available.

TransOhio will be hosting a Holiday Party in the Columbus area on December 17th at Club Diversity starting at 7:00 PM. The event will feature food and snacks but attendees are on their own for beverages!

The theme for the 9th Annual TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium has been set:
Trans Activism: Reaching Underserved Communities.

Look for more details about the symposium on our website or the Facebook page for the Symposium (TransOhio Trans and Ally Symposium). The call for topics, presenters and sponsors should be released in late December/ early January. The dates are April 28-30, 2017 on the campus of Ohio State Univ. We have already secured five key presenters and speakers for this three day program!

Finally, we are also working on plans for Transgender Job Fair in Columbus next March. Look for more details on this to set forth on our website and Facebook page. ( and TransOhio on FB)

Lots more has been happening and we have been working with many other organizations on projects and policies to help enrich the lives of transgender and genderqueer/GNC people throughout the state of Ohio. We hope that all in the LGBTQ and ally communities stays safe this fall and we look forward to seeing you at our events and programs!
